Site Cleanup
AECS, acting as a State of Georgia Hazardous Sites Response Program Removal Contractor, performed the investigation and cleanup of a hazardous waste site containing mixed waste streams including drums, tanks, and contaminated soil. The project required strict HAZWOPER protocols and close coordination with Georgia EPD throughout.
Scope of Work
- Site reconnaissance and hazard assessment prior to field activities
- Development of a Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan (HASP)
- Entry into the site with appropriate Level C/D personal protective equipment
- Inventory, sampling, and characterization of drums, tanks, and other waste containers
- Overpacking of deteriorated containers for safe transport
- Soil sampling to determine extent of contamination
- Excavation and removal of contaminated soil and debris
- Waste profiling and manifesting for multiple waste streams
- Transportation and disposal at licensed RCRA Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facilities (TSDFs)
- Issuance of Certificates of Disposal for all waste streams
- Final confirmation sampling and closure documentation
Results
All hazardous waste materials were successfully characterized, removed, and disposed of in compliance with RCRA regulations. The site was restored and all required regulatory documentation was prepared and submitted to Georgia EPD. The project received a formal no further action determination following confirmation of cleanup goals.
