Direct Push Technology
Site Investigation
AECS deployed its Geoprobe 6600 Direct Push Technology (DPT) rig to conduct a comprehensive soil and groundwater investigation at a multi-acre industrial property with suspected subsurface contamination. The investigation provided detailed vertical and lateral profiling of contaminant distribution to support remedial design.
Scope of Work
- Site mobilization with Geoprobe 6600 mounted on 4-wheel drive vehicle
- Soil sampling using Macro-Core and Dual Tube sampling methods at multiple locations
- Field screening of soil samples with PID/FID instrumentation
- Groundwater grab sampling using Hydropunch or equivalent tooling
- Installation of temporary monitoring points for discrete depth groundwater sampling
- Permanent monitoring well installation using hollow stem auger drilling
- Well development and purging prior to groundwater sample collection
- Laboratory analysis of soil and groundwater samples for target analytes
- Preparation of investigation report with boring logs, analytical data, and contaminant maps
Results
The DPT investigation successfully defined the three-dimensional extent of soil and groundwater contamination at the site. Data collected were used to design a targeted remediation system and establish a long-term groundwater monitoring network. The Geoprobe's ability to reach depths exceeding 100 feet allowed characterization of a deep contaminant plume not accessible by conventional drilling methods.
