AECS performed the permanent closure of underground storage tanks (USTs) at a commercial property in accordance with Georgia EPD Underground Storage Tank (GUST) program requirements. The project included full decommissioning of the tank system and assessment of soil conditions at the tank site.

Scope of Work

  • Pre-closure notification and coordination with Georgia EPD GUST program
  • Tank cleaning, degassing, and vapor testing prior to removal
  • Excavation and safe removal of UST(s) and associated piping
  • Visual assessment of tank condition and excavation for evidence of release
  • Soil sample collection at tank ends, under-tank, and piping run locations per EPD guidance
  • Laboratory analysis and comparison to Georgia EPD Risk Reduction Standards
  • Proper disposal of tank, piping, and petroleum-impacted soil if present
  • Excavation backfill and site restoration including concrete/asphalt replacement
  • Preparation and submission of UST Closure Assessment Report to Georgia EPD

Results

The UST system was successfully removed and soil sampling confirmed that contaminant levels met Georgia EPD Risk Reduction Standards. A closure assessment report was submitted to Georgia EPD and a No Further Action determination was issued, relieving the property owner of further regulatory obligations.
