Military Firing Range
Remediation

AECS performed lead remediation and decommissioning of a small arms firing range at a military installation. The project required strict compliance with US Army Corps of Engineers quality control standards and involved coordination with installation environmental staff and regulatory agencies.

Scope of Work

  • Site characterization sampling to assess lead concentrations in soil across the range
  • Development of a site-specific Health and Safety Plan (HASP) for lead-impacted work
  • Excavation of lead-contaminated soil including berm material and surface soils
  • Screening and segregation of lead shot, fragments, and impacted soil
  • Proper packaging, manifesting, and transport to a licensed lead recycler/disposal facility
  • Backfill and re-grading to restore the range footprint
  • Confirmation sampling and preparation of a Range Closure Report
  • All work performed in compliance with 29 CFR 1910.1025 (OSHA Lead Standard)

Results

The firing range was successfully decommissioned and all lead-impacted material was removed and properly disposed. The site was restored and all regulatory closure requirements were satisfied in coordination with the installation's environmental office.
